MARLYNN PARADA HOWE

Attorney

Since 1985, Marlynn Howe has been a California licensed attorney specializing in real estate and business litigation and transactional matters. An alumnus of Pepperdine University (1980 – magna cum laude ) and Pepperdine University School of Law (1985 – cum laude), she also holds an LLM in Dispute Resolution (Negotiation and Mediation) from the Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution, the premier program in dispute resolution.  Additionally, Ms. Howe has been a California licensed real estate sales agent and broker since the late 1970’s.

After graduating from law school in 1985, Ms. Howe began her legal career as an associate at Gray, Cary, Ames & Frye, San Diego’s then largest law firm, where she practiced as a real estate transactional attorney.  She moved on to become an associate and partner with the Newport Beach law firm Call, Clayton & Jensen, where she practiced as a real estate and business litigation attorney representing many Orange County banks, developers, partnerships, corporations and real estate brokerages, including representation of Grubb & Ellis in its Southern California litigation.  Her practice included litigating a broad spectrum of real estate and business matters including class action wage and hour claims, commercial and residential real estate disputes, title insurance disputes, HOA disputes, HOA construction defect litigation, and partnership disputes and dissolutions. In 1994, she joined Pepperdine University’s General Counsel’s office as Senior Counsel, handling a wide spectrum of corporate and educational matters. During her time at Pepperdine, she also handled the development of a faculty and staff housing subdivision project on Pepperdine University’s Malibu campus (including the drafting of HOA project documents and working with the DRE to process HOA budget, title, and subdivision documentation), various real estate litigation matters, construction management, insurance claims and real estate sale and purchase transactions.

In 1999, Ms. Howe returned to private practice at Call, Clayton & Jensen in Newport Beach, and completed a three year advance law degree program in Dispute Resolution at the Straus Institute of Dispute Resolution, graduating as a member of the Straus Institute’s first class of LLM graduates.  As an adjunct professor for the Straus Institute, Ms. Howe has also instructed law school and MBA students and professionals in the skills of client counseling and mediation. After a 10 year hiatus from her private practice of law during which she raised her children, sold over $200 million dollars of residential real estate and began a mediation practice (she is a panel mediator for the California Association of Realtors), Ms. Howe has recently returned to Call & Jensen and resumed her litigation practice with an emphasis in employment, business, real estate, and insurance litigation. With over 30 years of experience, Ms. Howe brings a rich tapestry of legal and practical experience to bear on all of her legal matters and looks forward to serving your legal needs.
