John T. Egley

John T. Egley received his undergraduate degree from Yale University and his law degree from Loyola Law School. Mr. Egley focuses his law practice on employment litigation and business litigation. His most recent successes include representing the prevailing employer in two published appellate opinions in employment class actions: Esparza v. KS Industries, L.P., 13 Cal.App.5th 1228, 221 Cal.Rptr.3d 594 (2017) and Cortez v. Doty Bros. Equipment Company, 15 Cal.App.5th 1, 222 Cal.Rptr.3d 649 (2017). These cases represent significant victories for employers that can be used across the state.
Mr. Egley’s employment law practice encompasses all aspects of employment litigation and employment counseling. He specializes in defending employers against wage and hour class actions, employee misclassification class actions, wrongful termination, meal period / rest break, discrimination, harassment, and retaliation claims. Mr. Egley’s business litigation practice focuses on copyright litigation, contract disputes, real estate litigation and trade secret litigation. He has achieved numerous defense judgments and dismissals on behalf of employers, including defeating claims on summary judgment and class certification. Mr. Egley has recent wins on behalf of a national retailer against claims of discrimination and wrongful termination on summary judgment and the successful defense of an oil industry client by defeating class certification.
Mr. Egley has been repeatedly selected as a Southern California Rising Star according to SuperLawyers, including for the years 2012-2017. He is a member of the Orange County Bar Association, Labor & Employment Section, and the Association of Business Trial Lawyers. Mr. Egley is a frequent lecturer on various employment law topics and conducts seminars and training for Human Resources professionals.
Mr. Egley participates in a number of volunteer and community organizations including the Yale Alumni Schools Committee, the Constitutional Rights Foundation Mock Trial Program, and serves on the Board of a non-profit church organization.
While in law school, Mr. Egley served as an officer in the St. Thomas More Law Honor Society and a Board Member of the Moot Court Team. He was a member of Loyola Law School’s award winning Byrne Trial Advocacy Team and a finalist in the moot court competition. Mr. Egley also interned in the Orange County District Attorney’s Office and worked as a research assistant for Professor Laurie Levenson.
